"Ask Mykel"

Sitting in Mykel's office, I spot die-cast models of the Hendrick Motorsports #24 car. "I'm absolutely a car guy," he says as he walks in. It's the week of closing, and the office is bustling with activity. As Mykel settles into his chair for our interview, there's a knock on the door. Someone has an accounting question, and Mykel not only gives the answer but explains the reasoning behind it. I promise not to take up too much of his time; I know he has a meeting with the executive team who have come to trust his measured approach to business. That trust is built on competency and a track record that started in 2017.

Getting a Foot in the Door

Mykel's first position was an entry-level role as a posting clerk, an opportunity to get his foot in the door. "All I did was post payments that we received from customers," he explains. "Whatever you asked me to do, I would do it to the best of my ability. I've always been the person to go above and beyond, and I think a lot of people say that in their interviews, but they decided to give me a chance on that." At that time, the company was in a very different place. He recalls walking into an office of only six people. "I thought, this seems like a very small company, but I’m going to do my best. Even if I grow out of this role, at least it's a good opportunity to get exposed to a real-world situation."

Evolving Roles

As the company grew, expanding its reach, staff, and services, Mykel’s role evolved too. He moved from handling small day-to-day tasks to overseeing broader responsibilities. His drive and willingness to take on new challenges allowed him to advance from a clerk to AR team lead, and eventually to senior staff accountant. Mykel credits his success to consistency and always striving to do his best. "If you want to be someone people trust, always be consistent". Brett Boettcher, President of Operations, on Mykels rise through the ranks. "It’s been an incredible privilege to watch Mykel grow from his role as an Accounts Receivable Analyst to one of the true pillars of our All-Pro home office. His journey is far from over—there’s so much potential still ahead. On top of his professional success, Mykel is a devoted family man who balances his work and home life with unwavering care and commitment. You can always count on Mykel to show up to work with a smile and maybe a couple of thoughtful questions. He brings loyalty, trust, toughness, and so much more to everything he does."

"We are gonna need a bigger office"

Looking back, Mykel is proud of how far both he and the company have come. "It’s kind of funny to think about where we started versus where we are now," he notes. When he first joined, the company had only about 200 associates in the field and a small home office team. Today, it has grown exponentially, with over 1,500 field associates and a full floor of office staff. Despite this growth, Mykel is proud that the company has retained its core values and continues to value its employees. "That's one of the things that I love about here. That's why I've been here for so long."

For a car guy, visiting Hendrick Motorsports campus was like Disney Land.

When it comes to what he looks for when hiring people it's about the energy you bring. "If you want to succeed here, it's not just about your skills, it's about showing up every day ready to do your best," Mykel says. He often looks for people who share that same internal drive. "We want this person to want to be here, and we want them to be here," he explains. "It’s not about being perfect; it's about having the drive to improve and being consistent in your efforts". For Mykel, success is not just about raw talent—it’s about the willingness to face challenges head-on, adapt, and be consistent.

Life Outside of Work

Outside of work, Mykel finds fulfillment in some unexpected hobbies, including his love of cars and maintaining his yard. "I'm absolutely a car guy," he admits, pointing out the models proudly displayed in his office. The other thing I do is spend a ton of time with my family—my wife and my daughter. We do everything together. We go out, we hang out at the house. That's what I enjoy the most. and yard work. Basic dad stuff. I do hate armadillos though." "They're always digging up my yard, and it drives me crazy."

Parting Thoughts

"Just stay consistent with what you do, and it'll work for your benefit," Mykel advises. "People value consistency over being the smartest person in the room."
